Asian UnderDog Radio

Hey there, everyone. *taps mic* Not sure if anyone is still following after such a long extended absence. But, I'm back! And I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I've had a busy month, I went on vacation to Florida to visit family and relax for over a week. After that, I've been dealing with an illness in the family, and haven't had much energy for the blog, to be honest.

But, enough excuses! I have news! I started a podcast! It's tentatively called Asian UnderDog Radio. I've been wanting to put this together for a long time now - actually well before I started this blog. So I'm really excited to present it to you.  It's pretty raw, and my first time ever doing anything like this, so I hope it sounds all right.

I'm trying to stick to music that people don't hear as much or as often as pop(ular) music and idols. So it's going to focus on the independent, underground and under-rated musicians that deserve more of the spotlight than they are currently getting. And, as the name indicates, they're all going to be Asian. Which includes, but is not exclusively limited to, Japan, Korea, India and China. I know those four countries and their music fairly well, so I feel I have something to offer. But, if I get listeners who want to hear other Asian music (ie: from Thailand, Indonesia, etc.) I'm always willing to give it a listen, and if I like it, I'll put it on the show.

The first show is pretty basic, a good spattering of music from genres such as R&B, Hip-Hop, Dance, Electronic, Indie, Rock, and even some music from a Tollywood (South Indian) soundtrack. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the format as a mixed show like this, or if I'm going to do a weekly theme format. So I want to throw that out to my listeners/friends as a question. Which would you prefer? Small song breaks containing the same genre of music all in one show, or a weekly theme?

I'm thinking of doing: Urban Soul - (R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul)
                                 Indie/Rock: (Punk, Indie, Alternative, etc.)
                                 Dance/Electronic (dub step, electronic, remixes)
(and maybe) Easy Listening - (Jazz, New Age, Ballads, etc.)

Then having occasional special shows like Fusion week, Covers & Remakes, and a few other little hidden jems I have up my sleeve.

So, which you you prefer? Leave comments down at the bottom to let me know. I'll see if I can get a couple polls up too.

But, for now, you can listen to the first show here on SoundCloud (It's downloadable too! - you can comment at any time throughout the show on a specific point if you have a Sound Cloud account. It's a great place to find some independent music and good podcasts too.)

  1. Covers! Covers! I love covers!!! Looking forward to that special show already ^-^

I quite liked the mix of everything, but perhaps keeping it more themed will make it easier to reach specific audiences.
