K-RoK Song of the Day: Boni - Come On Over (Cover)

I'm obsessed with this artist lately, and no, she's not K-Rock, but she defininetly doesn't get enough love from the general K-Pop public. She's R&B and I adore her. She debuted last year with two mini albums - 1990, and the Korean Music Award nominated album Nu One. I hope that she wins in all three categories she's nominated because man, does she deserve it. Check the jump for the video!

Korean Music Awards Best Dance & Electronic Song Nominees

I guess this is probably the most popular category as it contains f(x) and 2NE1, however there is a good mix of people in here. As much as I love 2NE1 and f(x) I hope the others have a chance because I think the idols win enough awards as it is. It would be nice for the others in this group to get some attention.

Videos after the jump:

Korean Music Awards Best "Pop" Song Nominees

To be honest I don't think "pop" describes these artists best, but it is what the category translates to so I guess that's what I'll stick with. Sorry I didn't get the rest of the categories up last night - I started with the idea late and had to head to bed. Here goes:

Korean Music Awards Best Hip-Hop Song Nominees

Wheee.

Korean Music Awards Best Modern Rock Song Nominees

Another nice category. I think I would call it "Indie" versus "Modern Rock" but whatever.

Korean Music Awards Best Rock Song Nominees

Of course, you didn't actually think I would leave out the rock category did you?

Korean Music Awards Best R&B Song Nominees

No, not just Taeyang is up for this award. (And no, it's NOT K-Rock, but hey, I love it all and I think this is an awesome category.)

K-RoK Song of the Day: Galaxy Express - Really Want You

From their Korean Music Award nominated album Wild Days is the song that got another nomination altogether Really Want You.

Galaxy Express have been around since 2007, but they've been making waves and creating quite a name for themselves in the Korean rock scene. They have a Northern America tour starting in March of this year as well. Of course, they aren't coming anywhere near ME, but that's another story.

Lee Joo-Hyeon - Bass and vocals
Yoon Hong-Gu - Drums
Park Jong-Hyeon - Guitar and vocals

K-RoK Song of the Day: Walrus - Mosaic

Kim Jae-Wook, of Coffee Prince and Marry Me, Mary fame has a new title: rocker. They've been quietly doing the club scene since their college days in 2003 but the band Walrus finally just made their official debut with the self-titled mini-album Walrus. Three tracks are just enough to whet the appetite of this K-RoKer. I think I need more than just a few songs. I hope they make a strong debut and we get to hear more from them soon!
1: To Be
2: Mosaic
3: 서울마녀 (Seoul Witch)

Here's a short live clip of them:

And a nice full-length sample of the song I like best: Mosaic

New Video: Yellow Monsters - Destruction

The Yellow Monsters are back with another release off of their self-titled freshman album and this time it's a lovely live performance video that really shows the energy the guys bring to their shows. The audience eat's it up! I do think I spotted No Brain in the back-stage area at one point too! Please enjoy it and remember to buy the album! :) I love this song. It has great energy and it's also Choi Jae-Hyuck's favorite song off the album. :)

K-RoK Song of the Day: YB - 그것만이 내 세상 (It's Only In My World)

Every time I listen to this song I get a huge chill run through me at about the 4 minute 11 second mark. This is taken from their 15 Years, Live Best! album that came out late last year. I adore it. It's got some of the tracks from previous live albums and some new ones from performances last year. If you're a new or old YB fan it's a great album because it either lets you re-live their glory or just get a good taste of what they can do and who they are as a band. Buy it here. Also - YesAsia just re-released all of YB's albums so you should get your hands on them while you can! Supporting Korean rock artists is even more important because they don't get all the endorsement deals and acting jobs like idols do.

K-RoK Song of the Day: Lee Jung Hyun - Eat Well Live Well

This weekend I was talking with friends about what got me into the Korean music scene and it's this girl, Lee Jung-Hyun.  She's not a rock artist, but she's worked in several genres and likes to mix things up. She debuted in 1999 with her album Let's Go To My Star. It was very experimental and heavy on the electronica sound. She hasn't lost her dance beats over the years, but has turned her music into a fusion of pop, rock, electronica, Spanish beats and a little bit of Indian flavor. This song, Eat Well, Live Well always struck a chord with me long before I got into the Korean rock scene. But, come to realize all these years later that this song is actually Lee Jung-Hyun featuring WHO? Dr. Core 911! YEAH~ Sometimes things in my life come full circle. This happens to be one of them. Don't ask what this picture is either. I was lucky enough to find this on youtube instead of using up my last few minutes on Sound Cloud. It's also of note that she is an actress as well. She has been acting in mostly historical dramas that I love.

BRB.

I should have posted this sooner, but last week my iPod died and I've been trying to recuperate my music collection. As soon as I've got it all back under control things on the site will return back to normal. Thanks for your patience!

Hwanhee thanks you for your patience!
